Instructions to Authors of English Papers
Japanese Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition accepts English manuscripts of original research and case reports, contributed primarily by members of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. The content of the manuscripts should pertain to original (not previously published) work, and be written in English.
Statements contained therein are the responsibility of the author(s). The Society reserves copyright and no published materials may be reproduced in any form without the written permission of the Society.
Submit one original manuscript and two copies (including tables and figures), to the Editorial Board.
General Instructions
Manuscripts should be typewritten double-spaced (25 lines per sheet) on one side of white A4 paper (29.8 x 21.1cm), leaving more than 2.5cm wide margins on the right and left. Word processor writing is also acceptable, if the layout follows this instruction.
Full papers should report the complete findings of original research. Their length should not exceed 12 printed pages. Case reports should be shorter than 6 printed pages. The editors will accept longer papers only when there are compelling reasons to do so.
Specifications
Numbering of pages should be consecutive from the cover (page 1) through the text, references, legends for figures, plates, or tables (explanatory titles, etc.).
Page 1 should contain (1)title,(2)author's name (s) and institution (s), (3)total pages of manuscript (except for tables and figures) (4)number of tables and figures,(5)running head (short title), not exceeding 50 characters including spaces, and (6)the name and address of the author to whom correspondence and offprint requests ahould be sent.
Page 2 should contain an "Abstract" of the paper (200 words of less) and "Key Words" (5 or less).
The text should be as brief as possible and organized under the classified headings of Introduction, Material (s) and Method (s), Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, and References. A "Summary" should not be included in the text.
Units and customary abbreviations, such as cm, mm, nm, g, mg, kg, ml, l, mM, mEq, M, cal, Kcal, U, IU, cpm, ppm, etc. should be used without punctuation.
Figures should be numbered and separated from the text. Each figure must have a label pasted on its back indicating the number of figure, the name (s) of the author (s), and the top (orientation) of the figure. Legends for figure must be included on a separate sheet and should be as short as possible.
Photomicrographs must include the magnification scale. One set of unmounted and another set of mounted micrographs are acceptable. The unmounted pictures should be trimmed to exclude all but the essential area no larger than 14.0 x 20.0cm. The reduction ratio of the photomicrograph (2) is decided by the Editorial Board unless specified otherwise by the author (s) for compelling reasons.
Separate sheets should be used for each table with its serial number and a brief explanatory title. The approximate location of each table or figure in the text should be indicated in red ink on the right margin of the manuscript.
Citations of references in the text should be given in arabic numbers in brackets, [ ], which refer to a list of references given in numerical sequence at the end of the text. References in each original article should not exceed 30 in number. "Personal communication" or "Unpublished data" should not be included in the references. The names of all authors should be cited. Journal abbreviations should follow the style of Index Medicus. In the following examples, notice the punctuation and the omission of "and" between the names of authors.
